The descendants of Christiana (Kitty) Bradley and James Cowan are invited to the 3rd Cowan Family Reunion to be held May of 2008.
The first reunion was held in 1926, when 11 of Christiana's children,
together with many of her grandchildren, great-
Christiana was the daughter of Captain William Bradley, a pioneer farmer who settled on the 3rd line of Huntley in 1830. When Christiana died in 1927 at 101 years of age, she was Ottawa's oldest living woman, and the oldest person in the Ottawa area.
Christiana and James had 12 children. Today, we know of over 1,000 direct descendants!
Over 500 descendents attended the reunion from May 23rd to 25th, 2003 at the Carp Fairgrounds in Carp, Ontario , where we met our relatives, learned more about our family history, and enjoyed several social activities.
Come join us for the 3rd reunion May 23-25 in Carp, Ontario. (The weekend after the Victoria Day long weekend). We are organizing a reunion where you will have the opportunity to meet your relatives, learn more about your family history, and enjoy several social activities.
We hope to make this an enjoyable and memorable reunion for all ages. Will you be attending?
You can register for the Cowan Family Reunion by downloading the downloading the pre-registration form. We are asking for a partial payment at this time to demonstrate your interest and to raise the seed money required to put the reunion together. We are a non-profit group. Postage, printing, deposits on catering, hall rentals etc. require money.
When we have received your input and all of the activities are organized, we will contact those who have pre-registered in early February with a list of events and additional costs.
We need your response by December 5, 2007
Here's what you need to do
We have started a family cook book project. If you have any family recipes that date back several generations or a favourite family recipe that everyone enjoys. How about a picture of you in your kitchen? Does anyone have a copy of Great grandmothers Cowan's cook book? If you have an authentic hand written recipe please send a scanned copy or photocopy so we can include the original in the cook book. Please send it to Sue Graham sgraham11@sympatico.ca or mail to 5 Ancona Crescent, Ottawa, Ontario K2G 0N7 Please include any information about the recipe i.e. created by great aunt or this is our Friday night favourite, or this is our traditional... etc. etc. Tell us where you got it, was it handed down. If you can include a picture, great. We are looking for all types, main dishes to dessert and snacks - no limits. We are truly trying to make this a fun, unique Cowan family cook book.
